Using Sciton's MicroLaserPeel and ProFractional technologies, we can address issues of sun damage and pigment irregularities on most areas of the skin. Popular treatment areas are the face and neck, though some people also treat the chest, hands, and legs.
If you have been exposed to any sun, tanning beds, or self tanners, you will need to wait to receive the treatment. Our staff can determine how long the wait will be. There are a some medications that are also contraindications. We will discuss your medical history with you during your consultation to ensure this is a safe treatment for you.
We offer Sciton's MicroLaserPeel and ProFractional treatments, alone or in combination, to help you regain a vibrant, even skin tone.
The MicroLaserPeel’s beam is scanned over a treatment area to remove a very thin layer of the skin. Removing the top layer eliminates some of the damaged cells that can give skin a tired, aged look. As the skin heals, fresh cells grow and resurface the treated area. The result is healthier-looking skin, often with reduced wrinkles and improved color evenness. Patients often say that it looks like their skin went from looking tired to vibrant.
ProFractional uses a tiny laser beam to treat thousands of pinpoint areas of your skin. Because only a fraction of your skin is directly treated with the laser, the surrounding untreated tissue promotes rapid healing. The skin’s wound healing response creates new collagen which adds firmness and resilience to the skin. Though ProFractional can spot treat, treating the whole face at varying intensities creates a uniform color, texture, and tone.
Your skin will be cleaned in the treatment area and your eyes will be protected with safety shields. The MicroLaserPeel and ProFractional therapies are widely regarded as comfortable procedures, requiring either no anesthetic or the use of a topical numbing cream or local anesthetic, depending on the depth of treatment. The physician will position the laser handpiece above or on the skin, depending on the treatment, and will hold it in place as the computer-guided scanner moves the laser beam around the treatment area. When the laser energy is applied, you will hear a rapid succession of snapping sounds. Depending on the size of the area being treated, the procedure usually lasts 15 to 30 minutes.
Depending on the treatment, you may notice that the skin has a “frosty” appearance or mild redness immediately after. “Frosty” skin is due to dehydrated skin that will peel away within the next few days following the treatment. You may experience a sensation resembling sunburn, as well as mild swelling. Moisturizer, a cooling mist spray, or both may be applied after the treatment.
Depending on the depth of treatment, most patients feel comfortable enough to return to work within 2 to 4 days. There will likely be some swelling that will subside within several days following the treatment.
Excellent results can be obtained in just one treatment, however the number of treatments needed may vary from patient to patient. Your physician can personalize a plan based on your specific needs and may choose to combine esthetic procedures to further personalize your treatment.
With the MicroLaserPeel, because only the outer layer of skin is treated, most patients notice an obvious improvement in tone, texture and color evenness once the skin heals in approximately 3-4 days.
With ProFractional, as your skin heals in the days following your treatment, you may notice a general tightening effect. However, the true benefit of ProFractional is the collagen remodeling that occurs during the 4 to 6 months following your treatment.
You may be given skin care products and instructions on how to use them. Your skin will be sensitive to ultraviolet light after the procedure, so you must avoid direct sun exposure until fully healed. It is recommended that you always use some level of solar protection to avoid sun damage and premature aging of your skin.
