Juvederm injectable gels are indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis (below the outer layer of skin) for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the creases running from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth, aka smile lines or parentheses). Juvederm is also an excellent treatment for lip enhancement.
Juvederm is not for people with severe allergies.
In addition, you and your healthcare professional should discuss the following important treatment considerations in order to help avoid unsatisfactory results and complications when using Juvederm injectable gel:
- If laser treatment, chemical peeling, or any other procedure based on active dermal response is considered after treatment with Juvederm injectable gel, there is a possible risk of an inflammatory reaction at the treatment site.
- Juvederm injectable gel should be used with caution in patients on immunosuppressive therapy, or therapy used to decrease the body's immune response, as there may be an increased risk of infection.
- The safety of Juvederm injectable gel for use during pregnancy, in breastfeeding females, or in patients under 18 years has not been established.
- The safety of Juvederm injectable gel hyaluronic acid dermal filler in patients with a history of excessive scarring (e.g., hypertrophic scarring and keloid formations) and pigmentation disorders has not been studied.
Advanced Laser Clinic offers both Juvederm Ultra and Juvederm Ultra Plus. During your initial consultation, your doctor will evaluate which Juvederm formulation is right for you.
Wrinkles around the nose and mouth: smile lines (or "parentheses"), marionette lines, vertical lines. Juvederm can also be used for lip enhancement.
Yes. In fact, Juvederm injectable gel is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has proven its safety and effectiveness in persons of color. Studies with Juvederm showed no increased risk of hyperpigmentation or hypertrophic scarring in patients of color.
Young, healthy-looking skin contains an abundance of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). But, as you age, sunlight and other factors can reduce the amount of HA in your skin. The lack of HA causes your skin to lose structure and volume, creating unwanted facial wrinkles and folds - like those parentheses lines around your nose and mouth.
Using a dermal filler like Juvederm is a safe and effective way to replace the HA your skin has lost, bringing back its volume and smoothing away facial wrinkles and folds.
Not all HA dermal fillers are created equal. Only Juvederm is so smooth. Other hyaluronic acid fillers currently on the market are made of granular consistency gels, but our unique manufacturing process creates a smooth-consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel - so everyone will notice (but no one will know).
Did we mention it’s more comfortable than previous Juvederm formulations? Juvederm injectable gel is now formulated with lidocaine, a common anesthetic used to improve the comfort of treatment.
Juvederm is the ONLY hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA-approved to last up to one year after initial treatment. Our unique manufacturing process provides a high concentration of cross-linked hyaluronic acid for long-lasting results. It also works to create a smooth consistency gel that flows easily into the skin and provides a smooth, natural look and feel. All other hyaluronic acid dermal fillers currently on the market are made of granular consistency gels. And, Juvederm is the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler that has demonstrated its safety and effectiveness in persons of color.
Some doctors recommend that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs), for at least a week prior to receiving the treatment in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Ask your healthcare professional what he or she recommends.
Juvederm dermal fillers are approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), meaning that clinical data on their safety and effectiveness were reviewed by the FDA prior to approval.
Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short-lasting (seven days or less). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injections site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures there is a risk of infection.
No reports of scarring were documented in clinical studies with Juvederm dermal fillers. Additionally, studies with Juvederm injectable gel demonstrated no increased risk of hyperpigmentation in patients of color.
If this is your first visit, your healthcare professional will ask about your medical history, including any allergies you may have or medications you may take, and will tell you more about treatment with Juvederm injectable gel.
If your physician determines that Juvederm is right for you, he or she will then examine the soft tissue of your face to assess the depth of wrinkles and folds to determine your treatment for wrinkles. Juvederm is indicated for correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds. Juvederm XC injectable gel is available in two formulations - Juvederm Ultra XC for versatility in contouring and volumizing facial wrinkles and folds in the skin, and Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, a robust formulation for volumizing and correcting deeper folds and wrinkles in the skin. This allows your healthcare professional to better tailor treatment to your unique skin volume needs. They may even take pre-treatment photographs so you can see the difference after receiving the treatment!
The smooth consistency gel of Juvederm allows your doctor to administer it easily and smoothly. Juvederm is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort. However, injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. Your physician may also elect to use a topical anesthetic to numb the treatment area before the injections to further minimize discomfort. However, anesthetic may not be needed prior to treatment since Juvederm is specially formulated with lidocaine (a type of anesthetic) to improve comfort during treatment (compared to the non-lidocaine Juvederm formulation). Your healthcare professional will then ease the Juvederm under your skin (where wrinkles and folds occur) to replace lost skin volume. Following the injection, your healthcare professional may gently massage the treated areas. The procedure is quick and easy and the results are instant! The injection itself usually takes only about 15 minutes.
You should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients need one injectable dermal filler treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing and improve skin volume. Just one treatment with Juvederm can smooth away your wrinkles for up to one year! However, results from injectable dermal fillers may vary and correction is temporary. Supplemental touch-up treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal correction of your wrinkles and folds.
You should avoid the following for at least 24 hours after treatment:
- Strenuous exercise
- Consumption of alcoholic beverages
- Extended exposure to sun or heat
Avoid lying down for six hours after the treatment.
You may experience pain, tenderness, temporary redness, swelling, bruising, firmness, and bumps at the injection sites. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in seven days or less. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period. Be sure to report any redness and/or visible swelling that lasts for more than a few days (or any other symptoms that cause you concern) after receiving treatment to your healthcare professional Your healthcare professional will tell you when makeup may be applied after your treatment.
Treatments such as Juvederm injectable gel fillers can enhance the way you look. Juvederm dermal fillers work by instantly filling in and smoothing out wrinkles and folds, creating a smooth, natural look and feel. In fact, a National Women's Health Resource Center survey found that for those women who were treated with or considering esthetic-injectable treatments, more than half (52%) reported that treatments were appealing to them to obtain a “natural and refreshed” look.
When administered by an experienced physician, you can still smile, frown, and look surprised. Esthetic-injectable treatments such as Juvederm dermal fillers are technique-sensitive procedures so make sure to visit a well-trained esthetic-specialty physician for your treatment and discuss the optimal results you would like to achieve.
Just one treatment with Juvederm can smooth away your wrinkles for up to one year! However, results from injectable dermal fillers may vary and correction is temporary. Supplemental touch-up treatments as well as repeat injections are usually needed to maintain optimal corrections.
Juvederm (XC) is the ONLY hyaluronic acid (HA) filler FDA approved to last up to one year with one treatment. Restylane is approved to last up to eighteenmonths (with twotreatments).
